watch this video and tell me what your opinion is of what he has to say.

his comments on expanded metal are from 5:48 to 7:20 in the video.

I have figured out 1 thing for sure, there are as many different opinions on the best way to catch gold as there are people looking for it.One thing I know for sure is Miner Mike was wrong about using expanded alum to cook on,it will melt!! Laughing Wes

Let me add some thoughts here.

Prospecting is an endeavor that requires tools and talent.

Think about this, if you have a picture to hang, do you go out and get a sledge hammer or a tack hammer. If you want to drive a big stake into the ground, do you reach for the tack hammer or the sledge hammer. DUH?????

Any tool requires talent to use it, so to drive the nail, the hammer brings 25% of the task and the talent brings 75% of the task to complete the job.

The same holds true for prospecting or metal detecting. There are a lot of tools to chose from and to be successful, you need to chose the right one. However, the talent the you bring to the job is the 75% part of the task and your skill using the tool, really is what the job is all about.

Yes, its great to be able to go out and buy the most expensive tool, but when you do, do your part to bring the other 75% of the task by learning how to use it.

IT"S ALL ABOUT EXPERIENCE!

Dickb Very Happy

Keep the expanded metal! It helps to trap the fine gold. After your first scoop of material it will usually fill the small void under the riffles.

Wes is right everyone has their own opinion on the best way to catch gold! I saw several things in that video that made me laugh!

Or you can just get an Angus sluice and put the metal sluices back in the garage where they belong... Wink

I love the Angus sluices, I own 2 of them. Don't throw away the expanded over moss configuration though, it will catch stuff the Angus misses and will always miss, and believe me, the Angus loses values at 70 mesh and below.

I'm redoing my highbanker and am doing away with 1st set of riffles and just using 3/4 raised expanded over miners moss and ribbed rubber mat.The second half of sluice has riffles w/3/8 expanded just in case.I think I can run the sluice a lot flater with this set up.I have always used expanded metal under my riffles, but also have miners moss.I catch a lot of very fine gold. Wes

I remember having Miner Mike explain that one to me once or twice before but cant remember exactly but I wanna say it was because it caused a gap in the riffles. Ive since gone to angus so the hell with that A52.
