I went in 2008. Nice place, but it can get hot in the summer. Go before it gets to be 110 in the shade. Most finds anymore are in the East drain area. Stick to there and you'll have a chance.
Good luck and have fun.

A while back in Gold Prospector, a fellow found a 43ct yellow at Crater of Diamonds State Park, Ark. Mostly, they find 1ct or less there in yellows and browns. They are finding diamonds in Wyoming, Canada, Colorado and even a few on the east coast although they haven't found the mother kimberlite pipes that produced them in the east. Be prepared to look for other gem stuff such as amethyst, pyrope, agate and jasper which all have been found at the park. There also other minerals there that may be of interest to you or collector $$. |

A gem pan/box has a screen/mesh of about 25 or smaller, window screen works. Also it is used a little differently in the tub. If you have course classifiers, you can put them to use. They have a flume, tables, tubs and fine classifiers for use there. They have people to show you how to use the pans for gems and what to look for. You can either work the plowed ground or buy buckets of dug material. Rubber boots are a good idea always if working the field. Tweezers to pick out small stones and something to put the gems/minerals in to take home. |

Basically one can buy buckets of dirt or work the field which they plow. A small shovel or scoop to fill one's own bucket and fine mesh screen as noted. Then one washes the dirt away and sorts thru the gravel that's left over, hoping for a diamond. Water doesn't stick to diamond so that appear dry while other gravel remains wet. Some with a good eye just go thru the field looking for diamonds on the surface. Mud and dirt don't stick to diamonds making it "possible" for one to see them. |

Just within the past few weeks a young boy found a brown diamond of over 5 carats. |
