Smell it. Looks like sulfur I used to see in Fl. Either that or the fake cheese in combos. |

Looks like the darker bands may be Jasper. Jasper is a coloration of the chalcedony type of quartz. Flint is made of quartz but the formation and molecular structure is a little different. The yellowish is possibly a similar type of mineral as most "mixed" minerals form under similar circumstances.
Can you break off a small tip to see what the broken surface looks like.
Try scratching a piece of quartz with it and use the quartz to try to scratch it. You can also try using a hard file to see if it can make a scratch, easily or with great effort? |
