Just received a new forman AU trap sluice, hopefully will get to try it out soon probably not much season left. I thought I would give a grub steak a try earlier in the season in a small stream without much flow and was amazed at how small of gold it caught, can anyone say if the AU trap sluices are better at catching very fine flour gold over the grub steak. Not that it would need to be any better than the grub steak as it did awesome and I'll be able to run more material with the forman. Any info on about how many buckets I should be able to run through the forman before needing to do a clean out? even though these are a breeze with the angus sluices. Thanks for any replies |

The amount of heaves in the material your running determines how often you will have to clean the sluice, I have run an explorer for 5 years now and some areas I prospect I can only get 1 bucket others 7 buckets, the sweet part is it only takes a minute to clean and reset the sluice.
Happy Hunting and load them riffles

I agree with Phil.
I have a grubsteak and a foreman. both have there place, but side by side the foreman definitely out preforms my grubsteak.

I have 5 MacKirk sluices, including the grubsteak and AU trap foreman. The grubsteak is great when there is very little water flow, but you will be able to run a whole lot more with the foreman. It will retain the fine gold just as the foreman does. I classify to 1/4 before sluicing. I have classified to 8 or 12 before, and was able to run it longer that way. Like Phil said, clean up times will vary, but it only takes a minute to clean and set back up. |
