Wish I could have made this one. Ya'll have fun and stay warm. It's gonna be a chilly one this weekend. Thermals and gloves are a good idea! Good luck to all. And I want to see some clean-up pics!!! |

I think you are right lots of black sand but no fines. It was a good test for the highbanker I have been working on.

GREAT!!
The gold looks great but there may be other reasons for no fine gold. Too much water flow or not the right angle can wash out the lighter fine gold. This isn't likely since there was a lot of black sand but if the black sand filled up the grooves, etc it can keep the fine gold from settling into the bottom of the grooves.
One lesson I learned from watching the Gold Hog videos is that unless you have turnover in your sluice/grooves, all you're doing is raising the bottom level of your sluice. I was at Thermal in early Oct. and tried my highbanker with the newly inserted gold hog matting, but had my A 52 set up to catch everything that came out of my highbanker. I got one nice flake and 18 fairly nice specks in the A52. I only cleaned it out 2 times while running the full load of soil. I got lots of black sand which may have been the cause of the upper sluice not getting all, or at least 95% of the gold. I'll be cleaning out more often next time to see if it makes a difference.
I wish I could have been there but have a 2 night trip next week with my wife to Thermal City and I couldn't see making 2 trips so close together with the price of gas and lodging. |

It was a great outing, just too short with me having to work monday. Thanks again Wes for putting it together hope to do it again soon.
And for those of you who didnt come, the spaghetti Wes made was the best iv had.
I didnt get as much footage as I normally do, but what I got I am still editing.Unlike my normal videos, I really didnt get much prospecting on film, but more camping/eating/etc. |

It was great to meet you Jeff.
I really enjoyed the outing and seeing old and new friends.
I didn't get to spend as much time with everyone as I would have liked too and I hope I didn't offend anyone by seeming distant, I just had a lot going on.
I hope we can all get together again soon. Wes |

I found some decent gold Friday at a GPOC location, and got some "salted" gold hibanking at Lucky Strike Saturday. I'm sorry I didn't take any pictures this trip. The real gold was seeing some good friends again, and making a few new ones. |
