Looking at getting a 4x6 utility trailer to haul it with on my civic and was wondering if the 4x6 is inside dimension or outside demensions or maybe someone can tell me if they have one that fits inside one of these. Just trying to see what I need to do to get into a 4 inch dredge. :-0

I measure my 4 inch tomorrow. 4x 6 is going to be a bit small I think. You will probably need a 4x8 at the smallest to protect the dredge.

Yeah, Im gonna need the dredge measurements and the inside dimensions on a 4x6 or 4x8.

Pete, Inside dimensions of a 4X6 is 4X6 and a 4X8 is 4X8. Trailer is should always be listed as inside dimensions.

Here is a nice light 4X8 at Harbor Freight. Several guys in VA use this exact trailer.

Hmmmm, I was thinking I needed the one with sides on it. They want 100 bucks to ship that too. I do have a harbor freight close by work so I may see if they carry those.

My Keene triple stage 4" sits in a 4x5 trailer that you buy from Lowes. I have about 1/2" clearance around the dredge when it is in the trailer. Fits like a glove!

well Im debating on whether to go harbor freight or find one off craigslist. Once I get the trailer situation done, get my taxes back and scrounge up some change Ill be knockin on your shop door for a 4 inch triple soon. Yeah ive used both and they are both solid. I even built a racing 5hp briggs for a go kart I had with a cam and piston, etc. the works. You couldnt kill that thing.

The floats on the honda carb are not as sensitive to a "rocking" motion . We used them on small winches off shore and the briggs would always do great till we left the dock . once we started rocking it was all over with . just my 2 cents but its what works down home , they are a bit quieter too .

I have a briggs on my 4" triple stage and it purrs like a kitten. If I had my choice it would have a honda on it.

Question? Isn't your assembled Keene dredge over 8 feet long? Guess what I'm saying is that your sluice box will hang off one end and your flare jet connection off the other end if your trailer is 6 feet. It works fine at that length for hauling it down the creek, but would you want to haul your dredge down the highway hanging off like that?

When I visited Contrary, the fellow that helped me get down stream had the 4 x 6, but he didn't get it to Contrary that way. He had a 14 foot trailer that carried the ATV and 4 x 6 trailer with dredge.

You guys can get some awesome deals on Craigslist.
Thing about a used trailer is to make sure you've got good tires and especially bearings.
I got a nice 5x8 with a 3500# axle for 300.00 a couple years ago. I replaced the floor and sides. built it a little higher and widened it so I could fit an 8' camper top on it.
Great for carrying all my camping gear and sleeping in it after you get it unloaded. A queen sized air mattress fits in it perfectly.
The camper top has roof racks, so you might see it toting a 16' canoe on top also.

Fanatic is right about the 4x6 good for hauling it down the creek. From the end of the jet to the end of the sluice is just inches short of 8 Ft I think. I will measure it today. I personally would not go with anything smaller then a 5X10 just for a little protection. I have been hit in the rear 2 times when I had my 5X10 trailer loaded with the 4 inch dredge. The first time no damage was done to the dredge. The second time I was hit so hard that it totaled the trailer and damaged the dredge and the back of my Sequoia. The dredge can be repaired with 5 rivets that hold the bar that holds the sluice to the frame. If I had had a 4X6 trailer the dredge would have been totaled in both accidents. If I had a 4X8 trailer the dredge would have maybe has slight damage in the first accident.

You can put sides on the trailer from Harbor Freight. The only reasons I suggested the one from HF is I know your tow capacity is going to be limited pulling it with a Honda and I know some guys in VA use them to haul their dredges on. I now haul my dredge on a 6X16 trailer yes it's overkill but nice when hauling a ATV and dredge or I can easily fit 3 dredge on it.

Go with the Honda 6.5 . I have Honda's on all my dredges and never had a problem other then broke ropes or a bad spark plug.

I think any good tap to the rear of any of those trailers is gonna damage the dredge significantly. thats what insurance is for. As far as tow capacity, Im trying to keep it as light as possible. I dont see much difference in a 4x6 or a 4x8 though as far as weight so If its not much difference Ill go with the 4x8 just for a little more room like gas, gear, etc. Im also thinking it may be nice to double as a camper if I added walls and brought a tarp or something to just lay over the top and rope it down. I used to use a toy hauler with my F150 back when money was good to haul my bike to the track then sleep in it with the gear out of it. Worked great and is excellent for sound barrier although I wouldnt really get the sound barrier on this setup I would get some wind resistance on those cold nights. just thinkin out loud and its gonna be a month or two before I get all the money up but its in the works.

Not meaning to hijack the thread Twisted Evil but while we're talking trailers I'm going to get something specifically for hauling the dredge behind the ATV. I'm thinking of the bigger 4 wheeled wagons from TSC. Isn't that what you have Kev? My real question is which do you think is better - a two wheel or a four wheel cart. I can think of advantages to both.

4 wheeled wagon for hauling a dredge on the creek. I have converted several VA guys to wagons already! I go places I can't take my ATV and a trailer would do me no good once I got there. I can winch the wagon down a almost straight up and down creek bank then pull it by hand where I want to go. I got mine from Norther Tool and it doesn't look like they have the on I got anymore.

Trailer for the road, wagon for off road.

Well I think Im gonna go for the dredge first. We do have a colorado which it should fit in the back of that though I havent measured but problem is the old lady cant drive stick but Im gonna fix that this weekend. har har Gotta do a clutch soon anyway so ill knock it all out this weekend.
