There is an old quartz mine on Shigletrap mountain but i am not sure exactly where it is. You can also find anatase there as well. I found several crystals on the horse trails right off of cotton place road. Shingletrap is towards the end of Cotton Place Rd., but not sure where to go from there. |

I have found multiple quartz crystal tips, a few small and one big one in the creeks west of the Uwharrie river. |

Mitch, sorry this is so late I just now read it...but I know where you are talking about exactly. I can take you there next time you come there if you want. There was also a gold mine there too or right near. |

Go down 555. It is the road that follows the river. There is a ATV trailhead there. Go past the trailhead to the endof the road. There is a gate. We used to be able to drive all the way to the river. Now you have to walk. When you get to the bottom of the hill, you will see quartz everywhere. The whole side of the mountain is a tailing pile. I used to take the kids crystal hunting there. Just go up the mountain and dig through the tailing pile. If you go far enough up, you will see old ore bins or carts. Good luck. There is another place but I would have to show you. It is near group camp. |

was there not a gold mine right in the area of the quartz mine? looks like it might have been some kind of gold mine according to this one old map..maybe not though. |

I have been wanting to go crystal digging since a friend told me about his adventures. My husband & I went yesterday. Unsure exactly where to go, we struck on up a horse path. About 1/2 way up I was taking a break & looked down. BAM...there's your crystal. Part milky, part clear. I then saw a stone poking out from the side of the trail; decided that was my honey hole. Yes, it was!! I got several clusters and several beautifully clear crystals. I came home and happily washed & brushed the delicate crevices to unleash the spectacular beauty!!! I've found my new playground! |
