As title says I'm from Charlotte and have the fever, I'm not new to prospecting but am always willing to learn new tips and tricks. For anybody else from Charlotte, have you panned any creeks or streams in Mecklenburg county? eg. little sugar creek, four mile creek, mcalpine creek etc. I've searched 'gold panning in Charlotte' but all I get is Reed's Gold Mine. Anybody? |

I have panned the creeks in Mecklenburg. I am from the Hickory Grove area. Know a ton of history about that area whichs relates to gold mining. All creeks in Mechlenburg has gold. Getting access is another issue. Much luck to ya. Welcome to forum.

Thanks for the hospitality, reason I'm asking about the creeks is because I think Charlotte is a pretty boring city and panning in the creeks could surely burn some time, Thanks again |

Mecklenburg County or Charlotte, has it's own gold belt. And... mint back then. Hence the Mint Museum of Charlotte.
I did pan some core samples near Trade and Tryon at 600 feet deep. My buddy was running a core drill for Bank of America building to be built. Found gold in core. The whole County has gold in creeks. Charlotte has rich history in gold mining, wars, etc. Do some homework to find locations.
Did you know Charlotte was a naval base for the Confederate army? There is a plaque on a building on Stonewall street where base was. |
