It seems there there is at least some interest on this board about rocks and gems. I belong to a great club that is based in western NC called MAGMA (mountain are gem and mineral association). Their members are very knowledgeable about all aspects of rockhounding. Below are links to their forum (Dirty Rockhounds) and the club's website. If you are wanting to know more about rocks you can't go wrong here.

They have many fieldtrips throughout the year to some of the best collecting sites in NC, SC and GA.

@Sam - MAGMA is having a three day machine dig at the Crabtree at the end of October. That would be a good one to go to. I am hopefully going to make it to that one. |
