I'm still in the learning stages of prospecting and I've learned a great deal from reading everyone's posts. I just ordered a Mackirk Grub Steak from Shay's store and was wondering if this unit is just fine as it comes or would a little modifying benefit in any way? Like adding a mat right after the flair? Most of the creeks around my house are not very big and have moderate water flow. By the way, this is a great forum with a bunch of great people! |

The only thing you need to add to it is some gold.
It will work as is, in most any water. |

Welcome to the forum. I have a grubsteak, and would not modify it at all. It works well with little water flow, and used it once with water that was moving pretty fast, and it still had some fine gold in it. |

Shaw sells those. When I go to visit I am going to get one for my Grubsteak I bought from Shaw.

Be careful when you order because the grubsteak is only 5 inches wide inside. Not 6 like they advertise. |

classify to 1/4 or 1/8 and do a cleanup after every full bucket of material. Thats about it. I love mine. |

Thanks a lot guys. I appreciate the feedback and tips. I've never used a sluice before so it helps to hear some input from the experts! |

You will love it. I used mine for the first time yesterday. I only classified to 1/2 inch. I have a homemade classifier using 1/2 hardware cloth. It worked great with no problems. The bigger rocks washed right on down. I checked my tailings a couple of times to see if I was losing any gold and did not find a spec. Check out my post in South Carolina section to see what the Grub will catch. |
