I would think the Explorer. Because it has 21 riffles. The lenght of 32" is nice.

I do not own one YET... but will soon... I hope.

I have saw the Alaskan in person and if I had to pick any one it would be it. You can put a classifier on the V and shovel away. I had my grubsteak and had to classify then shovel out of a bucket while he was just shoveling away into the classifer until it filled, then dumped it and started over. I will say that I can put my grubsteak in my backpack and that definitely isnt something you can do with an Alaskan.

Tough question. I have the grubsteak, explorer and alaskan flare. I used all 3 at the same time on my last trip. I like the alaskan because you can remove the flare if you have good water flow, and use it like an oversized explorer. The grubsteak is awesome if you are working with poor water flow, and I found out it rocks with great water flow.I have heard great things about the au trap, and that is next on my list.

I voted for the Explorer because that is the one that I have. But I do think it is the perfect size and weight. It is east to carry plus it fits in a 5 gal bucket.

I voted for the explorer also because you can use it in any type water...slow..medium..fast and still catch all the gold.

I didn't pick one because I like all 3 of mine.I guess after thinking about it, my explorer probably did better than the alaskan flare. It took longer for the flare to clean itself. I might try running it next time without the flare, and see how it does.

I bought the eureka because I need a drop riffle to match the size of my A51A.

Madhatt3r needs to chime in on this. I think he has the Explorer and Grub Steak (not 100% sure.)

Like Jim1966 was saying. What sluice is right for one condtion, may not be perfect for another condition. It pays to own more than one.

I chose the Explorer for much the same reason as Shay.
(works in nearly all water conditions) It is also the largest
model that fits easily into a bucket. (makes cleanup a snap)
Is small enough to comfortably backpack into remote locations.

B

If I were looking for a production sluice it would be the AU Trap.
(that thing will move some material in good flow)

Good one... thanks. I learn a lot here. Well, soon I will hve 2 sluices. have the Keene A52P and just ordered the AM Explorer. It will be a good experiment next time to set up both and see which will do best.

I voted Explorer all the way...seen many versions in action and I like the explorer above all.

just like shay said..runs good in slow, medium, and fast water!(while getting 99.9% of the gold if setup just right)

its an awesome sluice.

about the AUtrap, its great sluice! it can handle ALOT of material etc and I have used one and seen it in action several times. The only thing about it is it takes more faster water...but in the right place with the right flow its an A++ sluice.

I voted Au Trap because thats the one I have. I love this sluice but did have trouble setting it up in one spot that was all bedrock, just didnt have enough rocks around to get the flow right so I had to carry material up stream a bit.
My next purchase will be the Explorer!

Both are great sluices, I love them both. I do not have an autrap but I have used one and seen it in action several times.

yeah ya should get ya an explorer for the slower water, you can still feed it very fast.
