Gonna go check this mine in east ga. cost is 25 per head and you have to be at the gate by 9am to be let in. Very primitive open pit mine, you will have to bring everything you need to get by for the day. Im thinking of going either in the morning or wed. morning.

Post up here so I can let the caretaker know a head count and put you on the list. Im waiting to hear back from him if I can go in the morning or wed. morning. |

Did a full day diggin here and while I came back with some amethyst, they were all broken half points, nothing real cool. Funny thing was it was all laying on top almost like it had been salted. I dug and dug and dug in 4 different spots and moved a ton of material and only came back with a few specimens. I wasnt too impressed with this place and I seriously doubt I will be back. For 10 bucks cheeper and 30 minutes a longer drive I couldve went to diamond hill and had a blast. Save your money folks and steer clear of this one. Anyone else been there? |

I still had a great time just not much to show for my efforts. May have just been my luck but it was just funny how the pieces were all over the top yet when you dig there was not much to be found but micro pieces and trust me I did a thorough job going through my material and I bet I moved enough material to fill 5 truck beds with a pickaxe. Almost felt like it had been gone through previously or that maybe the tailings were just put there to get to the good stuff as the middle of the pit was roped off unlike diamond hill where you can go anywhere in the pit if you want. I think the guy says to look at the top so you dont get skunked which is an easy feat for this place. |

JXR isn't salted. I think its just one of those places where if they recently did any machine digging, your odds of finding something nice in the tailings drastically increases. Its not like DH where veins are sometimes easily accessible. I have never been, but from what I've heard it can be feast or famine at JXR.

Im sure it isnt salted, just sayin it felt like it the way I was finding fragments at the top. Im sure if you went right after they dug you would have a better chance if you were there but theres tons of tailings piles still there and Im sure loads of stuff untouched. The clay pockets I was digging into looked fresh and undug besides it being in a tailings pile so I wasnt just scraping the surface. Some places I went several feet down and in a few directions before moving on. From my experience, I wont go back and I have heard good and bad from this place as well just figured I would give it a shot and for 25 bucks I was far from getting my moneys worth. |

As you can see I didnt do near as good as I did at Diamond Hill.
fragments of amethyst mainly with one rough piece attached to its base still. Kind of weird there was only one there. It was embedded inside a rock and when i split it that was the only one in there.
