There is a lot of different quartz, amethyst and other crystals. I haven't heard of anyone finding gold there. It looks like a cool place to spend a day.

I have been to Diamond Hill quite a few times. Its a great place to find some nice quartz specimens. Brian, the owner of Diamond Hill, let me pan the creek but I didn't find any gold. I didn't spend a whole lot of time because the mosquitoes were tearing me up. Good luck and have fun Pete! |

had a blast just got in from a 5 day prospecting adventure. I did score a very nice amethyst cluster and brought home approzimately 6 buckets worth of clusters. Got a big specimen that was as big as my cooler and weighed about 40 pounds. Ill have to get them cleaned up and shoot some pics later. Im beat. As far as this place goes, I loved it. I havent had an opportunity to go gem grubbin like that since I was a kid. Truly an authentic non salted experience. You never know what you find but clusters are plentiful. I only played in the amethyst pit today but I found some skeletal and smoke quartz clusters in the amethyst pit. also found alot of yellow/amber quartz clusters as well. I dug for a good 6 hours today and the buckets fill up faster than you think so if you ever go bring plenty of room for specimens because you can take home as many as you like. For 15 bucks its a steal of a deal adventure. I wouldnt wanna do this one in the summertime though but today was perfect weather. |

Pete,
Which pit is the Amethyst pit? Is it the one in and to the right or the pit to the left as you come in thru the entrance? Last year that one was like a double pit with a small ridge dividing it. Further over to the left, or down the side road is the smoky quartz pit. I got some real nice smoky quartz the last time I was there. Some of sparkles as much as any diamond I've ever seen. |

Take em, each one of your kids could take home a bucket of memories and create your own as well. I plan on taking my daughter out with me one of these days as well. It was great, digging finding your own stuff much like prospecting however here it was very rewarding and you dont have to dig long to atleast find something cool to look at if not take home. I cant say the same for jackson crossroads, I worked twice as hard over there and moved twice the material and barely came home with anything. I plan to go back to diamond hill again with my kid but will probably do it with a community dig so she can attend. If not she will have to wait till shes 12 and whos to say that place will be open or as good by then? |
