Found in northern piedmont NC locked up in the hardpack. Has real straight grains almost like it was petrified wood. Also heavier than any rock of similar size. Pics aint the best but here they are.
thanks. |

Leverite, That went through my mind as I was slippingitin my back pocket.
Thanks for the leg work Astro, I had forgotten about that site. Thought maybe or was hoping it was petrified wood but I'm sure you pegged it. Appreciate it again and like the new sig. |

The picture is not too good but it's most likely kyanite. |

It is Kyanite, Indy is right. Asked some other fellas on Mindat here (and most of those guys are geologists):

I did notice the blue but at least I wasn't too far off because Sillimanite is a polymorph of Andalusite and Kyanite. |

You are exactly right, Astro. Remind me to give you a piece of sillimanite from a location not known to have it. It's a new county record. Maybe I should have it recorded for the data base? |

I love being in a creek with a new prospector and they pick up a rock and say hey look what I found what is it? I get all excited and look at them and say its leverite...holy cow..I can't believe it! Then I usually throw it back in the water and they give me this funny look like what did you just do that for? |
